The “I’m Excited” Facade

05/11/2011

Seriously, twitter

The words “I’m excited” have become a means to talk about ourselves over twitter in a way we wouldn’t in a normal conversation.

Next time you’re tempted to use these words try to rewrite the tweet without them, and then ask yourself:

- am I name dropping?

- am I bragging?

- does anyone care?

If the answer is yes, then consider writing a new tweet that has your reader more in mind.

Or

Just brag, and don’t pretend you’re not.

Make sense?

Ok, I’m off to do something really important somewhere really exotic because my life is more exciting than yours, and I’m excited.

Good post Tripp. There is no doubt that hype is a major part of getting attention in an age of social media. I think its ok to have hype in certain situations, but the longevity of the value of a new creation must stand on its own. The contrast of hype or real value will be a major conversation in days to come as all content and creations must go through a filter. Curators will be one of the most valuable people in the age to come. How would you recommend announcing new releases without being excited?
